Previously, three friends -Eena, Atchi, and Fib- are about to become adults in their strange secluded village. They're nervous about the Ascent, a rite of passage into adulthood, in which they will gain special mental abilities, and bond with a larger clone of themselves. One day, having snuck out to the Forbidden Forest, they run into a giant creature, and accidentally lead it back to their village!
